Now that even the most modest Nikons feature 24 Mp. sensors, optical quality and lens performance are increasingly coming under pressure.

With the launch of the D610 Nikon replaces the D600 after a mere 13 months, allegedly to finally solve the oil and dust problem that has been plaguing the latter virtually since its introduction.
The new camera’s “suggested” retail price of $ 2.000 is slightly inferior to its predecessor, which launched on September 13, 2012 with a SRP of $ 2.100.

Nikon are the hallmark of engineering prowess. In terms of IQ they have been beating the competition for the last half decade, or so.

So why the company has been scrambling around new product strategies, recently, and why have the shares dropped off so dramatically?

With the D700 now being fazed-out, semi-pros and advanced amateurs are left with two full-frame cameras to choose from in Nikon’s mid-range price bracket, the D800E and D800 costing $ 3.300 and $ 3.000 respectively, while the D600 will set you back $ 2.100, a premium of $ 400 over the aging D300S APS-C camera.
Even in the absence of independent tests of the D600, it is interesting to compare it against the D800, to figure out how much more camera $ 900 buys us, and ask ourselves if it is worth spending the roughly 50% extra. more »
On September 21, 2011, Nikon launched the Nikon One mirror-less camera system, consisting of 2 cameras and 4 lenses, one speedlight, a gps device and compatibility with the ML-L3 IR wireless remote control and the ME-1 stereo microphone, both already used in its DSLR line.
