Adobe DNG Converter is - apart from View NX2 - the only free alternative if you run a version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) that is incompatible with your new Nikon. In this article I enlist a number of software alternatives and extensively describe the RAW-DNG conversion process, which is the same for any RAW format, independent of brand. Yup, I’ve been off of the radar for quite a while. We spent most of September in Amsterdam, to meet my first grandchild, hook up with the family and do tourist–stuff. I also went to the Photokina in Cologne, held both the new Nikon D7000 and Pentax 645D while I also bought some gear. So: I have a lot to talk about. more »
On april 21, Adobe released the Camera RAW plugin and DNG Converter v.5.7, while they started this week shipping the new Creative Suite 5 with ACR v.6.0. My guess is that ACR 5.7 will be the last ACR update for Creative Suite 4. more »
Comparing all the mayor contenders in the RAW conversion field leaves us with only one conclusion: there is no real "champion". Some images are better off with program x, while others with program y. However, and in spite of its shortcomings and elevated price, the Bridge/Photoshop/ACR/DNG Converter combo is the more obvious choice for those who routinely convert large amounts of RAW images. more »
